Methodology

The dynamics of diabetes are measured periodically using specifically defined indicators.

As part of the diabetes surveillance framework, consensus was used to define an indicator set that also contains indicators for periodic reporting. Various data sources provide a basis with which to operationalise these indicators.

Indicator set

The indicator set comprises a total of 40 defined indicators or indicator groups that are grouped into four fields of action. It constitutes the core of diabetes surveillance.

Data sources

Diabetes surveillance aims to provide prompt, periodic reporting on findings related to the consensus-based indicators. Wherever possible, data on the indicators is disaggregated by sex, age, region and education. Various data sources are used to do so.
