The quality of diabetes care for people with type 2 diabetes plays an important role in the prevention, treatment and prognosis of diabetes-related concomitant and secondary diseases, which are associated with a declined quality of life, a reduced life expectancy and increased healthcare costs. Against this background, the National Health Care Guideline (NVL) on the therapy of type 2 diabetes and the guidelines on the prevention and therapy of complications of diabetes recommend, among other measures, specific therapy targets for HbA1c (long-term blood glucose value), cholesterol and blood pressure as well as measures for self-management and care processes in the presence of type 2 diabetes. In accordance with these guidelines, the following diabetes surveillance indicators reflect some important aspects of the quality of diabetes care for people with type 2 diabetes.
