Pregnancy complications

Diabetes mellitus is an important risk factor for complications during pregnancy and at birth. A distinction is made between type 1 or type 2 diabetes that already existed before pregnancy (preconceptional diabetes) and diabetes occurring for the first-time during pregnancy (prevalence of gestational diabetes).

Both the St. Vincent Declaration (WHO, 1990) and the maternity guidelines of the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA, 2023) aim to prevent pregnancy complications associated with diabetes. The national diabetes surveillance depicts the following indicators on pregnancy complications.
